Today, together, inside the suite we will unveil an innovative approach; one that could propel your career to new heights. Pop on those sporty sunglasses, I want you to have a crystal-clear vision of what lies ahead.

Which brings me to the question inside the Career Suite. What three (3) things do you need to keep your Career GPS on the preferred track?

I’m willing to bet that before you leave the house you look for three things: your cell phone, keys & wallet. Today, I’m going to give you the workplace equivalent of your cell phone, keys & wallet.

Let’s start with the first one.
Your cell phone. That’ equal to your company’s mission. It provides connectivity. It connects you to the people, individuals and a wide network of information. Much like a company mission statement connects the organization to various departments, employees, and resources working towards a common goal.

Number two.
The Department’s goals. Those are your keys.
Because keys give you access to potential. The goals unlock the potential of a department. They serve as catalysts for growth, improvement, and success. By setting clear and achievable goals, a department can tap into its capabilities, resources, and expertise to reach higher levels of performance and productivity.

Last and never least. Your wallet.
The equivalent in the workplace is a pay for performance system. A performance-based pay system enables individuals to increase their income potential by connecting it directly to their performance. The better the performance, the greater the possibility of earning higher rewards. A wallet doesn't automatically fill up with money, unless you earn it and place it inside. Performance-based pay systems only distribute rewards to those who meet and exceed the defined performance criteria.

And that is going to be you!

Before you start your new job, I want you to create an excel spreadsheet, google doc or a notebook with 3 headings:

1. Cell phone
2. Keys
3. Wallet

Next to cell phone write “company’s mission statement”
Next to keys write “my department’s goals”
Next to wallet write “pay for performance”

Take a moment, review your interview notes and the company’s website and LinkedIn profile again and jot down three (3) facets of the company’s mission.

To all of my Selling Sunset fans and followers of the Oppenheim Group or OGroup, people in sales or marketing; I think you’ll appreciate today’s example.

The O Group’s mission is to (1) provide reliable real estate services to buyers, sellers, and investors, (2) assist clients in facilitating smooth and successful transactions and (3) maintain a reputation for excellence, integrity, and professionalism within the industry by staying updated on the latest market trends and technology.

Let’s say the O Group hired you as their newest videographer. As a member now of their marketing department, you could expect three (3) goals.

1. Increase brand awareness
2. Establish, support and maintain brand authority
3. Increase website traffic

Those are your keys; they will offer access to your potential!

Pay for performance, your wallet, these 3 items will help determine pay increases, bonuses, growth opportunities and build your resume for future opportunities if you left the O Group.

1. Flexibility without challenges, the O group has at least 4 offices, ready to be on the move traveling to different properties and filming locations, and must be able to adapt to changes on the fly.
2. Delivering the money shot; deliver on excellence, those visual moments perfectly curated using the latest technology that drives traffic through that funnel.
3. Timely execution with excellence as close to 100% accuracy as possible there is no room here for missed deadlines.

Your next steps include laying it all out. What type of schedule do you need to accomplish this? Time management tools and calendar reminders? What types of business sectors, groups or organizations do you need to join or stay on top of with the technology?
Are you following the competition on various social media platforms? Are you analyzing the data?

Remember; your cell phone, keys and wallet, you can’t go anywhere without these three things and once you understand how they play an integral part in your professional GPS, you’ll shift out of park, go past neutral and glide right into turbo charge!

Before we reach our first traffic light, in other words, before our actual first day. I’ll share 9 basic items for your first day:

1. Wear your smile all day.
2. Arrive no more than 10 minutes early in person and no more than 5 minutes early virtually.
3. Dress appropriately.
4. Be prepared for anything.
5. Listen to learn, not to respond.
6. Ask business questions.
7. Get to know the team.
8. Send brief thank-you emails or ims.
9. Organize your space at home for work.
